About Us

Sue McBrearty

Having come from a nursing background, I first started working in general practice 1975. I went on to manage a large practice in Christchurch for 7 years, when I was approached to pilot a practice management service for Pegasus Health in 2004.

I gained practice management qualifications from the Goodfellow Unit, Auckland University, and continue to enjoy the diversity and complexity of General Practice. My strengths are in the compilation of management reports and financial statements.

I enjoy working with practices to implement procedures, systems and policies promoting direction for the team in best practice and quality. In 2010 I successfully completed Unit Standard 8086 for Auditing in Healthcare.

When not working I enjoy keeping fit, cycling, travel and drinking great wine.

Following a ten year management position to a ten doctor, twelve thousand patient General Practice in the United Kingdom, I emigrated with my husband, three children and two dogs in October 2005 to join the Pegasus Health practice management pilot.

A Diplomat of the Association of Medical Secretaries, Practice Administrators and Receptionists through the British Medical Association, I expanded my learning with an Open University Certificate in Management gained in 2002.

I have enjoyed the transition from working within the English National Health Service to primary healthcare in New Zealand. Whilst there are obvious differences in funding, the commonality in the promotion of quality in both health environments is evident.

I am extremely motivated and take pride in empowering practice teams to achieve excellent working structures with a focus on quality and communication. The completion of Unit Standard 8086 in Health Auditing in October 2010 further endorses my understanding of Quality Standards within the health sector.

My interests include exploring my new home country, sampling fine New Zealand wines, swimming, walking, cooking and reading. My interests in water sports and sailing have grown in recent months with the purchase of a family boat. My family and I are proud to have been accepted as New Zealand citizens in 2011.
